The flickers before the click

"I don't really give a.... And my excuse is that I'm young..."

So I'm driving home one night listening to Pandora and 'Im on one' starts playing. I've heard the song a million times, so its natural for me to join in as Drake raps,

"All I care about is money and the city that I'm from

I'ma sip until I feel it, I'ma smoke it till it's done

And I don't really give a..., and my excuse is that I'm young
And I'm only getting older so somebody shoulda told ya

I'm on one"

Now like I said, I've heard/rapped this song a million times, but this particular night, I started thinking:

"All I care about is money and the city that I'm from"

(That's not all I care about anymore)

"I'ma sip until I feel it, I'ma smoke it till it's done"

(I might have a glass of wine every now and then, but I'm not sipping or smoking on nothing lol)

"I don't really give a.... And my excuse is that I'm young..."

That's where I kinda paused.

I'm 26. I'll be 27 this year.

I am officially in my late 20's.

I don't have that excuse anymore Drake lol.

Now I've been told by several people that a light bulb goes off at 30. It's something about 30 that stuff just starts clicking together and I'm looking forward to the click lol.

But I believe that before the click, there should be a few flickers that you start to have in your mid to late 20's. These flickers should help direct you into your 30 and up path because if you're waiting til 30, then you're already behind.

1. It's time to narrow down your career path.

What do you desire? What is something you would do for absolutely free just for the joy of it? Whatever that is, that's your passion. It's time to start working on that. I'm not saying quit your job, but you owe it to yourself to put just as much effort into your passion as you do your 9-5.

2. There are more forms of entrainment besides music and movies.

The Friend Zone Podcast

This post started with Drake lyrics, so clearly I listen to music, but that's not it. Over the lastouple of years, I've really gotten into podcasts. It's basically talk radio. I love them because I love hearing other people's perspectives. These are a few that I listen to. I would encourage you to find some you like.

I also started reading more. I used to read all the time, but I allowed life to throw new off a little. Now I'm back at it though! I just finished Angie Martinez's memoir and it was amazing. Now I'm starting 'Year of Yes', which I hear is amazing!!

If you love hip hop, then you gotta read this book!!

3.  It's time to start saving!!💸💸

I know it's hard, but money management is something that a lot of us sleep on in our early 20's.

At least I know I did...

But not anymore!! Now, I purposely put a certain percentage aside after bills are paid. It's not always a lot, but it builds up after time and we all like a little cushion.

4. What's up with you and God?

Some people might read that and roll their eyes, but hear me out. I'm a Christian. I've been one for a long time, but I didn't start taking my walk seriously until a few years ago. I just got tired of only partially giving myself to God and I buckled down and really gave myself to Him. That's not to say that I don't still mess up...

A lot lol...

But I'm really trying and I know He sees that. So what do you believe in? When you have your own family one day, what would you like them to believe? Meditate on that and think about how you need to be in tune with what you believe so you can share it with your family one day.

So what do you think? What are some flickers you had before the click? Leave them in the comments. See you later!✌🏿️✌🏿️
